Jelly Roll Rug
Roma Quilts has hit the quilting world by storm with her three jelly roll rug options. You have a choice of three shapes, the oval seems to be the most loved on Pinterest, the circle and the rectangle.
I started with the oval jelly roll rug. I cut up my own batting and used two jelly rolls from Joann’s. Honestly, this is the only time I would recommend Jelly Rolls from Joann’s as the fabric was flimsy. I have had this rug on my bedroom floor for at least four months and
A few things that I learned:
- You need a lot of thread, I would recommend starting with a new spool of thread, and making at least 10 bobbins.
- When planning the
lay out , the end that you start with is in the middle of the rug and it goes out from there. Layout your fabrics before you sew them together to make sure you get the layout you are after. - You might need an extra set of hands at the end. This rug get’s big, and having someone else help you feed it into the machine is a HUGE help.
- Iron often, I got to the
point that I would iron the rug downeverytime I changed my bobbin.
This one came out a bit rounder than the last one because I made the first round much shorter than the oval one.
If you are not a confident sewer, I would start with the rectangle jelly roll rug option. This came together so fast and easy, it’s really just straight line sewing. Perfect for all skill levels.
